There is a big difference between spiral and circular staircases

Cotton Creek Carpentry is very well known for professional, quality work it Two Hills County and area.

Michael Dadensky established his carpentry business in 1994, and named in Cotton Creek because that is the name of the creek that flows through his property.

Spending six years in Ontario working with a company that designed and manufactured staircases, enhanced  Michael’s appreciation for the art of intricate woodworking. “Custom designing and building circular stair cases is incredibly challenging. Creating a circular staircase is precision carpentry at its best. There’s a lot of planning that goes into the construction. It’s completely different from a spiral staircase. There aren’t many carpenter’s with this type of skill,” said Michael.

When the Dadensky family decided to make Two Hills County their home once again, Michael used his creative side again, by designing and constructing commercial signs. Many of the signs seen advertising a farm operation will probably be one of Michael’s projects.

This carpenter also recognized a trend toward outdoor decks. He began studying deck possibilities, as well as market researching the area. Since then he has built many, for new homes as well as additions to existing dwellings. “One of my first efforts was a massive cedar deck worth $8500. I have developed a solid reputation for good workmanship and customer service,” he added.

“We do the best work possible, we are second to none as deck builders in the area. When we’re done, the customer has a beautifully finished deck that is durable. With proper care, deck life can be anywhere from 20 to 25 years. Spruce wood decks have a life span of 10 to 12 years”.

In keeping with deck designing, Michael completed a concrete finishing course at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, becoming a certified journeyman in concrete finishing, and is a member of the Ready Mix Association. According to Michael, being recognized by the concrete association is very important, as without this ‘ticket’ concrete projects will not be easily warranted. Hand-in-hand with carpentry, concrete decks, patios, and commercial floors have provided Michael’s clients with additional services.

Turning to the Lamont-Two Hills Business Development Corporation (BDC) for counseling and support, Michael qualified for the Self-Employment (SE) program. “When I decided to start my own business Bernice [BDC General Manager Bernice Sambor] was my motivating factor. Her attitude was so positive, it was difficult not to believe in myself. The BDC assisted me with a feasibility study, business plan and market projections. Since the tools of my trade are very expensive, BDC helped me shop for the best finishing tools I could afford. Today, I have an excellent relationship with the BDC,” said the Cotton Creek Carpentry owner.

BDC General manager Bernice Sambor said, “Michael started his business gradually, and has been working hard to expand his skills. He knows business has everything to do with customer service.

Cotton Creek employs and subcontracts locally. During the summer months the work schedule consists of roofing, decks and concrete work. Winter takes them inside doing home renovations such as bathrooms, upgrading and painting. By the way, Cotton Creek’s experience is that white paint is the most popular color these days.

What is Cotton Creek’s dream? “We would go province wide to work on high-end deck projects. Constructing decks that are the best money can buy is always challenging when one takes pride in workmanship.”
